Our Vision
We work towards a peaceful, just and prosperous Africa to be part of the global arena in a more advantageous way; an Africa of open and self-reliant institutions with states that are effective and democratic, enterprises that are successful and transparent, civil societies that are socially-engaged and independent, and free and responsible citizens who may participate in all of these processes.
Our Mission
Gorée Institute is a Pan African civil society organisation dedicated to the promotion of peaceful, self-reliant, and open societies in Africa through the elaboration of new paradigms, the strengthening of networks, of institutions and of people, the optimisation of the continent's “creative” human and cultural potential and its financial resources.
We carry out our mission through facilitation and in partnership with state and inter-state authorities, as well as with diverse members of civil society. Innovation, critical reflection, analysis, and action and networking therefore make up our core values, expertise and activities.
Our main Organisational Aims are to:
- Strengthen political dialogue and establish peace
- Improve democratic processes
- Develop the continent’s human, intellectual, artistic and economic creativity
Our Strategic Objectives are to:
- Facilitate political dialogue and revalorize traditional conflict resolution mechanisms
- Improve the democratic process, particularly through training in the management and supervision of election processes
- Support creativeness and literary production as a means of enhancing the understanding of African realities
- Promote the dissemination of economic knowledge useful to economic actors and civil society
The Core Values informing our work are:
- Working in partnership: We build solid partnerships based on mutual respect, commitment and professionalism between our stakeholders and ourselves.
- Organisational integrity: We are an independent, Pan African public interest organisation with diplomatic status which guarantees our organisational integrity. Both our integrity and independence are non-negotiable.
- Cultural diversity: We remain committed to finding optimum ways of respecting the diversity of people and cultures we find in the largely African societies in which we work.
- Open and transparent management: The Institute is managed in an open and transparent manner and values the contributions of each of its members.
- Encouraging the enhancement of African ideas and knowledge: We encourage and support opportunities for Africans as groups or individuals to document, exchange and share ideas, experiences and hopes for Africa.
