NEW ORIENTATION

Boosted by its thirteen years of experience and enriched by the achievement of many activities and projects, the Goree Institute is currently repositioning itself to become more relevant in its interventions on a wider scope, and to keep pace with the changes noted in the sub-region and on the continent at-large.

Our main commitment will be to ponder over the causes of conflicts in Africa, promote appeasement on the continent and participate in the creation of conditions
conducive to sustainable peace.

The processes in which we participate through our programmes - democratisation for more economic and social justice, as well as the development of self-sufficient and dignified societies - hinge on the need to contribute to the advent of an environment of social, political and military peace.

Responding to the environment in which we operate; we strive to create tools for educational modules and interventions. These tools will be put at the disposal of other actors on the ground. We have also
committed ourselves to regularly and painstakingly making known the application, progress and impact of our activities.

Our intervention method will consist of developing partnerships with NGOs, international agencies, governments, sub-regional and continental bodies working for the same objectives. Our vocation is to be relevant and useful in a innovative and exemplary manner.

New Management - Change of Organisational Chart

Institute has instituted a Council of Fellows, which act as some sort of “quality control” body. This pool of resource persons are friends to the Gorée Institute meaning individuals who have contributed to the Institute in the past and who want to continue to lend their support. Fellows are invited to participate and initiate projects, activities and programmes and serve as steering committee when needed.

A 12 member Board of Trustees reflecting gender parity and representative of Africa 's regions and cultures serves as the highest policy and decision-making body of the Institute. The Board of Trustees is chaired by a chairperson, elected for a three-year period, renewable once.

An Executive Director is designated by and accountable to the Board of Trustees, and is responsible for the entirety of the Institute's actions.

The General Manager is appointed by the Board of Trustees and is responsible for the Institute's administration as well as the coordination of all its projects and activities.

Change of Functional Structuring
