Research and Documentation Centre

Through its programmes, the Gorée Institute  proposes to expand its existing book and documentation centre into a large but specialised depository of Africa relevant research and policy analysis material. This holding is designed to promote interdisciplinary and inter-sectorial research and analysis on Africa. By bridging the gaps between on the one hand, basic social science, humanities and cultural production, and on the other hand, policy relevant documentation and quantitative data and tools, the Goree Institute is committed to creating a unique capacity and environment for Africans to think about, and take action on our continent. The Research and Documentation Centre is the central element of this environment.

The Goree Institute Research and Documentation Centre has a dual purpose:

To support the work of the Institute and all its stakeholders and participants by the development of specialised internal software; and

To aid in the dissemination of the Institute's work by generating new media forms.

Containing works of relevance to both basic and policy research, social science as well as cultural studies, it allow researchers, activists and policy makers from a wide variety of fields to interact, and to generate new forms of knowledge about Africa. The Goree Institute seeks to acquire the most important books in the fields of African Studies, Cultural Studies and Diaspora Studies. These bibliographic resources supplement the existing holdings on government and society as well as the numerous research papers that the Goree Institute already possessed.

The products of our Research and Documentation Centre are available to those of our partners and beneficiaries whose needs they match.
